HK kids have a Shaolin summer Aug 02, 03 in Shaolin Temple News
Many of Hong Kong's youngsters are spending their summer holidays having fun at the beach or going to the movies. However, for a group of 80 youngsters, the latter half of the summer break is going to put them to the ultimate physical test.
Aged nine to 14, the group have joined a Shaolin kung fu training camp. Shaolin monks will put them through intensive training and share the rich history and philosophy of the temple and its renowned style of martial art.
One participant, Brian Wong, 14, loves kung fu and has read through all of Jin Yong's kung fu books. Having performed kung fu before, he joined the camp to learn more about it and study new moves from the monks.
Impressed by the monks' strength, stamina and endurance, he recognises they train religiously day after day.
Yet kung fu is not just an art for boys - girls enjoy it too. Carman Ng likes watching Jackie Chan's action movies and is another enthusiastic participant
