Shaolin kung fu Culture Centre to open mid-2005

The first phase of the Shaolin kung fu Culture Centre will open in mid-2005, Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho says.Dr Ho told legislators today the centre, situated at Tai O on Lantau Island, will promote the Shaolin spirit and culture in Hong Kong, and is being developed by the Culture Association with support from the Home Affairs Bureau.

Dr Ho added that the Government attaches great importance to the contribution local artistes make to the community, adding it strives to preserve the city's performing arts heritage and recognise artists' achievements.

He said a sculpture of Hong Kong's kung-fu movie legend Bruce Lee is being considered for the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui.
