Geneva's summer festival this year,with China as the Guest of Honor, came to a close at midnight Sunday after 11 days of various programs which attracted more than 2 million people. Christian Colquhoun, head of the Geneva festival, expressed his satisfaction for selecting China as the Guest of Honor.
China's participation has added color to the festival, introduced the great Chinese people to Geneva and Switzerland, andmade the beautiful city Geneva more knowable to China, he said. China is the eighth foreign country that has co-hosted the Geneva festival, initiated by the Geneva local government and tourism authorities 58 years ago to celebrate the Swiss national culture and customs.
The aim of this year's event is also to celebrate the 55-year-old Sino-Swiss diplomatic ties and the 60th anniversary ofthe founding of the United Nations.
During the past 11 days, a 140-member Chinese delegation presented photo galleries about China's world heritages and scenicsites, kung-fu (skill of Chinese boxing and sword play) performed by monks from the famous Shaolin Temple in central China's Henan Province, singing and dance performances and traditional folk arts.
At the invitation of the Swiss Tourism, the Chinese delegation would also make a tour show in some other Swiss cities, including the capital Bern.
